Why is my Shopify store still showing the myshopify.com URL and how do I fix it?
Every Shopify store is created with a default myshopify.com domain. If your store is still showing this URL to customers, it means your branding domain is not fully configured or not set as primary.
Why myshopify.com is still showing
- You have not connected a custom domain yet
- Your custom domain is not set as the primary domain
- Your DNS connection is not completed
- SSL is still being issued for your domain
Option 1 – Change your myshopify.com domain name (Free)
You can rename your default Shopify subdomain to better match your brand.
- Go to Settings > Domains
- Click Change to a new myshopify.com domain
- Enter your new store subdomain (example:
johns-store.myshopify.com) - Click Add domain
Important: You can change your myshopify.com domain only 1–2 times depending on your signup flow.
Option 2 – Connect your own branded domain (Recommended)
This removes the myshopify.com URL from customer view and makes your store professional.
- Go to Settings > Domains
- Click Connect existing domain
- Enter your domain (example:
yourbrand.com) - Complete DNS connection (automatic or manual)
Set your custom domain as Primary (Most Important Step)
- Go to Settings > Domains
- Select your connected domain
- Click Set as primary
Once set, Shopify automatically redirects:
myshopify.com→yourbrand.com
Wait for SSL & DNS to complete
- DNS and SSL may take up to 48 hours
- When SSL is ready, your domain will show 🔒 secure
Final Result
- Customers will only see your branded domain
- myshopify.com is used only for admin login
- Your store looks fully professional and trusted
