Quantity breaks and volume discounts in Shopify are primarily available to Shopify Plus merchants using B2B catalogs. This feature allows you to offer tiered pricing based on the quantity a customer purchases in a single order.

Who Can Use Native Volume Pricing?

Built-in volume pricing is available only for Shopify Plus B2B stores. If you’re not on Shopify Plus, you’ll need to use discount codes, automatic discounts, or third-party apps to create quantity-based pricing.

How Volume Pricing Works (Shopify Plus B2B)

Volume pricing lets you set lower per-unit prices when customers purchase larger quantities of a product variant.

Example:

QuantityUnit Price
1–19$20.00
20–49$18.50
50–99$17.75
100+$16.00

Important: Volume pricing applies per variant. Customers must meet the quantity requirement for each specific variant (e.g., 20 blue hats—not mixed colors).

You can create up to 10 price breaks per product or variant.

Step-by-Step: Create Volume Pricing (Shopify Plus B2B)

  1. Go to Shopify Admin → Markets → Catalogs.
  2. Select the catalog you want to edit.
  3. In Products and pricing, click Manage → Manage products and pricing.
  4. Choose a product or specific variant.
  5. In the Volume pricing column, click + Add.
  6. Click + Add quantity price breaks.
  7. Enter:
    • Quantity threshold
    • Discounted unit price
  8. Add additional breaks (up to 10 total).
  9. Click Done, then Save.

Optional: Set Quantity Rules

Quantity rules allow you to control how products can be purchased alongside volume pricing.

You Can Set:

  • Minimum quantity (e.g., minimum order of 10 units)
  • Maximum quantity
  • Increment rules (e.g., sell only in packs of 6)

To Configure Quantity Rules:

  1. Go to Markets → Catalogs.
  2. Select your catalog.
  3. Open Manage products and pricing.
  4. Click + Add under Quantity rules.
  5. Enter increment, minimum, and/or maximum values.
  6. Click Done and Save.

Theme Compatibility

  • Free Shopify themes version 8.0.0+ support quantity rules.
  • Volume pricing requires theme version 11.0.0+.
  • If your theme doesn’t display pricing tiers, custom Liquid code may be required.

Important Things to Know

  • Volume pricing is configured per catalog.
  • You can create different pricing tiers for different B2B customer groups.
  • Once applied, catalog-wide adjustment discounts do not stack with volume pricing.
  • Discount applies only when the required quantity is met in a single order.

Alternative Methods for Non-Plus Stores

If you are not on Shopify Plus, you can still create quantity-based incentives using:

  • Automatic discounts with minimum quantity requirements
  • Buy X Get Y promotions
  • Discount codes for bulk purchases
  • Apps from the Shopify App Store (search for “volume discounts” or “quantity breaks”)
